Tilicho Lake Trek

Tilicho Lake Trek Overview

The Tilicho Lake Trek combines the cultural richness of the Annapurna Circuit with a dramatic side trip to one of the world's highest alpine lakes. Trekking through the Marsyangdi Valley, you will pass waterfalls, apple orchards, and Tibetan-influenced villages before ascending towards the barren, windswept amphitheater that surrounds Tilicho Lake.

This itinerary includes acclimatization nights in Manang, a technical hike to Tilicho Base Camp, and the optional crossing of Mesokanto La or continuance towards Thorong La. Expect sweeping views of Tilicho Peak, Annapurna II, and Gangapurna—plus the satisfaction of reaching 4,919m beside turquoise waters.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How difficult is the Tilicho Lake Trek?
Expect 6-8 hour trekking days, multiple steep ascents, and exposure to cold, windy conditions near the lake. Prior trekking experience above 4,000m is helpful, and we include acclimatization nights in Manang to keep the journey safe.
  • When is the best season for Tilicho Lake?
Peak seasons are spring (March-May) and autumn (late September-November) when trails are dry and skies are clear. Early winter can also work with proper gear. We avoid the monsoon due to landslide risk on the cliffs between Manang and Tilicho Base Camp.
  • What permits are required?
The trek falls inside the Annapurna Conservation Area, so you need an ACAP permit plus TIMS card. If you extend over Thorong La, the same permits apply. Our team secures everything before departure.
  • What is included in the package?
We provide licensed guide and porter services, private Jeep/bus transfers, teahouse accommodation, three daily meals, permits, safety briefing, and support for optional Thorong La extension. Personal insurance, hot showers, and tipping remain extra.
